Swelling of the gums, jaw, or face may be a sign of a dental abscess or another infection and should be evaluated promptly. Other warning signs may include tooth pain, tenderness when biting, fever, drainage, swollen lymph nodes, or a persistent unpleasant taste or odor in the mouth.
Do not attempt to squeeze or drain the swollen area yourself. Call Harte Dental as soon as possible for an evaluation. A dental infection generally will not resolve without treating its source.
Call 911 or go to an emergency room if the swelling is spreading rapidly, extends toward the eye or neck, or is accompanied by difficulty breathing or swallowing.
