About Botox
Dynamic wrinkles on your face (forehead lines, crow's feet, frown lines) are caused by overuse of muscles. So think... if you smile a lot, you may have more wrinkles than someone who does not!
Botox (Botulinum toxin) relaxes muscle by blocking the release of a chemical called acetylcholine. Botox is injected into the affected muscles when treating muscle stiffness/spasms and wrinkles. This allows the facial muscles to relax, over time leading to less over-use of facial muscles, leading to reduced wrinkles in your future!
Most people start to see an effect within a few days to 2 weeks, and the effect usually lasts 3 to 6 months.
Your dose, the number of injections, the site of injections, and how often you receive the medication will be determined by your condition and your response to therapy. Of note, patients should stop taking aspirin and anti-inflammatory meds 2 weeks prior to the treatment.
